Whenever I get asked what prompted me to start Yoruba Proverbs, I immediately go back to how that is the main way my parents, my dad in particular, would end any point when he's trying to teach a lesson. Eventually, I realized the important of these lessons from our ancestors and decided to curate them.
What began as a labor of love archiving Yoruba thought has begun to grow. I research every proverb, I write the interpretation in my own words, and I try hard to get the tone exactly right, because as we know, in Yorùbá, the wrong tone can completely change a word or serve as a double entendre.
Growing up outside of Nigeria, it is so important to me to hold on to my culture and I am building this platform for others who want to keep the culture alive. For those who also recognize the wisdom of our ancestors and want to preserve it.
